Ihor Hryniv
Ukrainian scientist, sociologist, and politician.
He served as a Member of the Ukrainian Parliament for five terms (1990–2018). Hryniv was the campaign manager and strategist for the presidential election campaigns of Viktor Yushchenko and Petro Poroshenko. He is one of the founders of the Institute for Strategic Studies and Forecasts (the “Janus” Institute) and is an Honorary Professor at Lanzhou University (China).
He was born on March 10, 1961, in Lviv. Hryniv graduated from the Faculty of Chemistry at Ivan Franko Lviv State University (1983), completed diplomatic training courses at the Kyiv Institute of International Relations (1992), and later graduated from the Faculty of Law at Kyiv National University (1995).
Since 1987, he has been actively involved in Ukraine’s socio-political life. In 1988, he led one of the first democratic civic organizations, “The Lion Society,” and was a co-founder of the People’s Movement of Ukraine, serving on its Grand Council (1989). In 1990, he was elected to Parliament for the first time. Hryniv has held various positions in state institutions: Director of the National Institute for Strategic Studies, Deputy Chief of the Presidential Administration, and Head of the BPP parliamentary faction.
Since 2019, he has retired from active political life, focusing on research and teaching. His interests include sociology and strategic planning.
Hryniv has been married to Oksana Hryniv since 1982. They have a daughter, Mariia (born 1984), and a son, Roman-Danylo (born 1993).
He collects 20th-century paintings by Lviv artists, as well as antique icons and books.
